Dr Prasanna Gamage

Sport and Exercise Physician
Dr Prasanna Gamage is a registrar with the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians (ACSEP). Currently he is working at MP Sports Physicians in Mornington and Frankston.
Prasanna obtained his primary medical degree (MBBS) from the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka. As a junior medical doctor, he worked in general medicine, general surgery, anaesthesiology and in accident and emergency medicine.
He completed the International Olympic Committee (IOC) diploma in Sports Medicine, followed by Masters (MSc) degree with the University of Stirling in UK. In 2016, he was awarded the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) scholarship to complete his PhD in Sports Medicine in Australia. His PhD thesis is on injury prevention in cricket with focus on musculoskeletal injuries and exertional heat illnesses.
Prasanna has worked with sports teams, and event medical coverage with rugby, volleyball and cricket teams in Sri Lanka and in UK. In 2016, he served as the field of play doctor for men’s basketball at the Rio Olympic Games.
He is also an adjunct research fellow with the Australian Centre for Research into Injury in Sport and its Prevention (ACRISP) at Edith Cowan University.
